
NC State Women’s Tennis Readies for Second-Straight NCAA Quarterfinal Appearance

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Despite traveling nearly 800 miles to the final NCAA Championships site, sixth-ranked NC State women's tennis (26-5) will face a familiar foe from back home in The Triangle as it takes on fourth-ranked Duke (22-3) in the quarterfinal of the national tournament.
The showdown between the ACC foes is set for a 7 p.m. local time (8 p.m. EST) start on Friday, May 20 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex.
A win over the Blue Devils would advance the Wolfpack to the national semifinals for the second season in a row where it would face either No. 2 Oklahoma or No. 7 Texas A&M on Saturday.

Tickets are on sale now for the NCAA Tennis Championships. All-session packages include one ticket to each day of the team and individual competitions, and there are also single-session tickets available for both team action and individual competition. Any changes to match times or moves indoors will be announced on the @PackWTennis Twitter account.
A WIN ON FRIDAY WOULD:
• Be the Wolfpack's 17th victory over a nationally-ranked opponent this season and 11th over a team ranked in the national top 25
• Secure NC State's second NCAA Final Four berth in a row, tying as a program-best run in the national tournament
• Mark the Wolfpack's first time beating Duke in back-to-back seasons
PACK IN THE TOURNEY:
• The Wolfpack defeated William & Mary (4-0), No. 22 Tennessee (4-1), No. 11 California (4-0) in the first three rounds of the 2022 NCAA Championships.
• NC State is amidst the 12th NCAA Championships berth and its sixth time in a row qualifying for the postseason event under the leadership of head coach Simon Earnshaw. That streak is a program best.
• the Pack hosted the first two rounds of the tournament for the third time in a row after hosting for the first time in 2019. This season marked the team's first time earning designation as the host site for a Super Regional. NC State's home record now stands at a perfect 7-0 in NCAA Championships action.
• Last season, the Wolfpack reached the 2021 NCAA Final Four for the first time in the team's 45-year history. Prior to the 2021 dual match campaign, NC State had never advanced past the Round of 16. The Wolfpack has earned three-straight NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances.
NEW HEIGHTS:
• The Wolfpack has won 27 matches during the 2022 dual campaign, marking a program record. The previous single-season win mark stood at 24, which was set in 2019.
• NC State has improved from being unranked in 2016 to climbing as high as a program-best No. 2 national ranking in 2022.
• NC State started the season with a 10-0 record, the best season-opening mark in program history. The squad also went 7-0 to begin ACC play, beating the previous program record of 4-0 set in 1998.
• Earlier this season, the Wolfpack reached the semifinal at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. It was the program's best run in that national tournament after qualifying for the 16-team event for the third time in the last four seasons.
• NC State reached the 10-win mark in conference play for the third season in a row after going 10-3 in ACC matches in 2022. In 2018-19, NC State set the program marks for the most ACC wins in a single season (11).
UP NEXT:
Following the conclusion of the team tournament on Sunday, May 22, the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will also be played in Illinois from May 23-28.
