NC State had four true freshmen redshirt in 2021-22
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State Wrestling finished in the top-10 at the NCAA Championships for the second straight year and the Pack also won its fourth straight ACC Championship this past season.

Now the focus turns to the 2022-23 campaign.

This past season, the Pack had four true freshmen redshirt and compete exclusively in open tournaments. Now those four will be among the current Pack and incoming freshmen competing to replace three starters (149, 165 and 174 pounds) that exhausted their eligibility.

Here are how the Pack's 2021-22 redshirts did this past season:

Joey Milano (Schwenksville, Pa.)
Milano was named the top redshirt nationally at 184 pounds by FloWrestling and also the Pack's Freshman of the Year. A consensus top-50 recruit out of high school, Milano went 23-6 in seven open tournaments. He brought home first place in three (The Citadel Open, King Open and Patriot Open), and recorded six podium finishes overall. Five of his six loses came to D1 starters. In freestyle action after the season, he took eighth at the U20 World Team Trials at 86 kg.

Brock Delsignore (Shenendehowa, N.Y.)
Delsignore started his year at 197 pounds before moving down to 184. In his first four tournaments, he went 13-6 at 197 pounds, which including winning the bracket at the King Open. His last two showings were at 184 pounds, going 6-2 and winning the Franklin & Marshall Open going a perfect 5-0. In freestyle action after the season, he was the runner-up at 86 kg at the U20 World Team Trials. Coming out of high school, he was a top-70 recruit according to FloWrestling.

Derek Fields (Brunswick, Ohio)
Fields saw action in seven open tournaments, all at 157 pounds. He went 24-9 with six podium finishes. His last tournament was a second place finish at the Appalachian State Open. In freestyle action after the season, he placed 8th at 74 kg at the U20 World Team Trials. He was also a consensus top-50 recruit out of high school. His older brother Matt also wrestled for NC State and graduated this spring and has moved on to law school.

Luke Ahrberg (Cushing, Okla.)
Ahrberg saw action at both 141 and 149 pounds. He started the season 6-2 at 141 pounds in a pair of open tournaments, placing fifth at The Citadel Open. His final five tournaments were all at 149 pounds, as he went 12-7. He took first place at the King Open, and wrapped up the season with a second place finish at the Appalachian State Open.
