RALEIGH, N.C. - The second-ranked NC State women's tennis team (12-1, 1-0 ACC) opened ACC play with a victory on Friday after defeating Florida State (6-4, 0-1 ACC) 6-1.
NC State possessed an early advantage in the doubles portion of the contest with a win by default. The pair of Amelia Rajecki and Abigail Rencheli capitalized on the outcome. The duo claimed a 6-4 victory over Florida State's Kianah Motosono and Olympe Lancelot, sealing the point with critical breakpoints.Â
The Wolfpack went up early 3-0, resulting from a second default by the Seminoles and a win by retirement for Priska Nugroho over 6-1, 0-2.Â
Sophie Abrams clinched the match for the Wolfpack with a final of 6-3, 6-1. She secured vital breaks in the first and second sets, leading to the decision. After the Seminoles captured a win on Court 1, Abigail Rencheli answered with a 6-0, 7-5 result over Allen, anchored by two double breakpoints in the second set.Â
Nell Miller concluded the day's matches, defeating Lancelot 6-4, 6-3. Her effort was aided by a crucial break late in the first set and a strong closing effort on serve.Â
The Wolfpack will continue action with a doubleheader on Sunday, March 6. The Wolfpack will continue ACC play at 12 p.m. with a matchup against No. 14 Miami. Following that contest, NC State will continue play against Elon at 5 p.m.Â
