
Hidlay Brothers and Wilson to Wrestle for NCAA Placement

Hidlays will be in consolation semifinals, Wilson will wrestle for seventh place
DETROIT, MICH. – Three from NC State Wrestling have secured All-American honors at the 2022 NCAA Championships, and will return to action tomorrow to wrestle for their placement.

Hayden Hidlay (174 pounds) and Trent Hidlay (184) already had All-American honors secured with their NCAA semifinal placements coming into Friday night's session. With his win tonight in the Blood Round, Tariq Wilson (149) also will finish as an All-American.

Hayden Hidlay is now the only five-time All-American in school history. Wilson joins him as the only two four-time All-Americans in school history. Trent Hidlay earns All-American honors for the third straight season.

In the team race, NC State sits in 12th place with 40.5 points. Minnesota is in 11th with 41, while Missouri and Ohio State are tied for ninth with 42.

Starocci came out with a pair of takedowns in the first period and secured a 10-3 decision. In a rematch of last year's NCAA Final, Hidlay and Brooks went to overtime, but it was Brooks who got the winning takedown 10 seconds into extra time.

Wilson started the Pack's evening earning All-American honors for the fourth time in his NC State career as he scored a 9-6 decision over Northwestern's Thomas. Wilson picked up a pair of first period takedowns, and a reversal in the third led to a final tally of 1:32 of ride time for the win. The win was also the 100th of his career.

Scott fell in his bid to become an All-American in his first trip to the NCAAs. In the second period, Robb locked in a cradle and picked up a second period pin.

After a scoreless first period, Gomez secured a takedown in the second period and two more in the third period for a 6-2 decision.
