Terquavion Smith led NC State with 20 points
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State fell to North Carolina, 84-74, Saturday afternoon inside PNC Arena in the Pack's home finale.
The Tar Heels jumped out to a 20-3 lead and while the Pack closed within nine, 36-27, with 3:25 left in the first half, but UNC closed the half on a 10-2 run to take a 46-27 advantage into the break.
North Carolina shot 60 percent in the opening 20 minutes compared to just 25.8 percent for NC State to help the Tar Heels jump out to its large lead.
NC State scored the first six points of the second half to get within 13, but the Tar Heels rattled off the next seven to effectively put the game out of reach. The Pack closed the game on a 9-0 run to get within 10.
Smith led NC State with 20 points. He hit three three-pointers and now has 86 on the season, the sixth-most in a single season in program history.
It's the sixth time in the last eight games Smith has led NC State in scoring.
Cam Hayes tied his season-high with 16 points while Jericole Hellems and Dereon Seabron also reached double figures with 11 points each.
Armando Bacot led UNC with 28 points and 18 rebounds.
The Tar Heels had a 46-25 advantage in rebounds and outscored the Pack, 44-28, in the paint.
NC State returns to action Wednesday night when it plays at Wake Forest. Tipoff in Winston-Salem is scheduled for 9 p.m. and the game will be televised on Regional Sports Networks.
