MEET NOTEBOOK:
NC State's men have won 30 ACC team titles in the history of the program. Since the creation of the championship meet in 1962, the Pack has taken home 25 titles, including a conference-best 12 championship wins in a row from 1966 to 1982, and also won a share of the 1963 title.
NC State's women have won four ACC team titles in the history of the conference meet. The Pack last took home first place as a team in 2019, the program's second title in a three-year span. It also won the meet in 2017 for the team's first league crown since 1980.
The Pack men dominate the ACC record book, currently owning nine of the meet records, all of those set in the past five seasons. Overall, the Wolfpack owns 361 titles in the swimming events still contested at the conference championships.
The NC State women own titles in 111 individual and relay events since the inception of the conference meet in 1979. NC State's women also hold four meet records heading into this season's competition. Last season, Katharine Berkoff set a championship record in the 100-yard backstroke (50.45), and Sophie Hansson bettered her conference record in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.45) for the third year in a row.
2021-22 IN REVIEW:
The Pack men head into the postseason with a perfect 7-0 record in head-to-head matchups, while the Wolfpack women were 5-2 in regular season competition, with the two losses being to No. 1 Virginia and No. 2 Texas.
Both teams have been ranked in the top five of the CSCAA/TYR Top 25 for the entirety of the season. Headed into postseason competition, the Pack men currently sit in the No. 2 spot after moving up a spot in the latest poll, and they are the highest ranked team in the ACC, with Virginia Tech coming in at eighth. The Wolfpack women are currently ranked fourth nationally headed into the postseason and sit second in the conference behind No. 1 Virginia.
SUCCESS UNDER HOLLOWAY:
Since Braden Holloway took over as head coach at the start of the 2011-12 season, the Wolfpack has enjoyed unparalleled success in the pool.
During the 2010-11 season, both teams finished eighth at the ACC Championships and did not score points at the NCAA Championships. Since then, NC State's men have since secured six wins at the ACC Championships and the women six-straight top-three finishes, including winning the conference crown in 2017 and 2019.
NC State's men have finished in the top 15 at the NCAA Championships each year of Holloway's tenure. The Wolfpack women have also finished inside the top 20 at the NCAA Championships for seven meets in a row, going from a No. 7 national finish in both 2017 and 2019 to a program-best second place finish at the 2021 NCAA Championships.
TOP ACC MARKS:
NC State enters the championship with the top seed in six individual events - men's 200-yard freestyle, men's 500-yard freestyle, women's 100-yard breaststroke, women and men's 100-yard backstroke and the men's 400-yard IM. The women and men's 800-yard freestyle relay, men's 200-yard medley relays, women and men's 400-yard medley relays and men's 400-yard freestyle relay also sit as top seeds.
