MADISON, Wis. – No. 6 NC State women's tennis punched its ticket to the semifinals at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, beating No. 3 Georgia by a 4-2 score in the quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon to advance in the tournament.
With the win, NC State has compiled a 10-0 record to start the season, the best season-opening mark for the squad since it was first established as a varsity team in 1978. Five of those wins have been against nationally-ranked opponents.
Playing in its third ITA Indoors tournament, the Wolfpack advances to the semifinal round for the first time in program history. NC State will take on local rival and fellow ACC team North Carolina in the semifinal matchup on Sunday.
The Wolfpack has now defeated the Bulldogs three meetings in a row, with Georgia tabbed as the nation's No. 3 team in each of those matchups. The Pack's victories in those matches all tie as the highest ranked wins in program history.
NC State and Georgia put on an absolute thriller of a doubles point, and the Wolfpack once again came out on top to take an early lead in the team score. The Bulldogs took the first victory on court one, but NC State remained resilient for 7-5 decisions on courts two and three.
Sara Nayar and Priska Nugroho notched the win on court two first. Down 5-4, the Wolfpack duo won the final three games of the set, holding serve, getting a break to go up 6-5 and serving out the match.
The 30th-ranked pair of Jaeda Daniel and Nell Miller followed suit with a dramatic win of their own on court two. They rallied off four games in a row after facing a 5-3 deficit. After facing three break points, Daniel held her serve on the deuce point to put the Pack back in front 6-5, and she and Miller broke for the victory.

The first three singles matches off wrapped up in first sets, with Georgia getting the equalizer on one but NC State taking a 3-1 advantage with wins on three and four. Miller beat her second ranked opponent of the season in a 6-4, 6-1 decision over No. 95 Ania Hertel, and Nugroho followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Darja Vidmanova to put the Pack a win away from the clinch.
All three remaining courts extended into third sets. Amelia Rajecki's valiant effort came up just short on court six with No. 46 Meg Kowalski getting the 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win. Rajecki faced a 5-0 deficit in the third and rallied off four games in a row before coming up just short.
Abigail Rencheli and Sophie Abrams were both doing great work in their respective third sets, but it was Abrams who clinched on court five with a ranked victory over No. 119 Morgan Coppoc. Abrams won that match by a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 score, breaking Coppoc twice in the third set, including the final game of the match.
