SYRACUSE, N.Y. – NC State women's basketball (11-2, 1-1 ACC) will play its first game of the 2023 calendar year on the road as it makes the trip to Syracuse (10-3, 1-1 ACC) for a New Year's Day game.
The Sunday matchup is set for a 7 p.m. tip-off inside the JMA Wireless Dome, and the game will be televised on the ACC's Regional Sports Networks. Andrew Sanders and Ernie Myers will also have the radio call on WKNC 88.1 FM in Raleigh, and fans can also listen to their broadcast on the Varsity Network app.
A WIN ON SUNDAY WOULD
• Be the 1,010th win in program history (1,008-480)
• Be head coach Wes Moore's 792nd career win (791-240)
• Be Moore's 234th win at NC State (233-71)
• Mark the Wolfpack's sixth in a row over Syracuse
• Hand the Orange its first home loss of the 2022-23 season (9-0)
NOTING THE WOLFPACK (11-2, 1-1 ACC)
• Prior to Thursday's loss to Duke, NC State had won seven games in a row and was unbeaten at home. The loss was the Pack's first time losing to an unranked team since Feb. 7, 2021, snapping a 42-game streak.
• NC State had also won 18 straight home games in ACC action prior to Thursday. The Pack had not lost a conference game played on Kay Yow Court since Feb. 24, 2020 (also to Duke).
• The Wolfpack ranks in the top 25 nationally in three-point percent- age (6th - .399), rebound margin (10th - +12.2), field-goal percent- age (19th - .470), blocks per game (21st - 5.1), scoring margin (25th - +20.2).
• NC State has seven players averaging 7+ points per game, and all of those women are shooting 39+ percent shooting. The Pack is one of two programs nationally that has seven players with those marks.
• The Wolfpack has racked up 30 regular-season conference wins since the start of 2020-21 and has won those outings by a conference-best average of 17.4 points.
SERIES HISTORY (NC State leads 9-4)
• Sunday's game marks the 14th overall meeting between NC State and Syracuse. The teams have met at least once every season since 2013-14, Syracuse's first year in the ACC.
• The Wolfpack has won five games in a row against the Orange. Syracuse's last win in the series was an 85-75 decision inside the then-Carrier Dome on Jan. 12, 2017.
• NC State is 2-2 in road games at Syracuse. The Wolfpack brought wins home in each of its last two trips there, earning its first road win against the Orange in February of 2019 and capping off the regular season with a victory there in February of 2021.
• The Pack is 7-4 against Syracuse under the leadership of Coach Moore.
• The teams last faced off in Raleigh on Feb. 20, 2022 for the Pack's 2022-23 home finale. NC State never trailed in the outing on its way to the 95-53 win that secured its ACC regular-season crown.
