RALEIGH – The eighth-ranked NC State women's basketball team (10-1) closed out non-conference play on Thursday night with a commanding 81-47 victory over in-state foe Davidson (4-7). The win improved the Wolfpack's win streak in Reynolds Coliseum to 17 consecutive games and an impressive 52-straight non-conference games against unranked opponents.
Every member of the team's rotation contributed at least five points with Aziaha James (19 points), Camille Hobby (14 points) and River Baldwin (11 points) each finishing in double figures.
James' 19 points tied her career-high set earlier this season against Mount St. Mary's, while Baldwin tied a career-high 11 rebounds en route to her third career double-double and second this year.
The rest of the scoring effort was filled out by Madison Hayes with nine points, Jakia Brown-Turner and Saniya Rivers who each finished with eight, Mimi Collins, who posted seven points, and Jessica Timmons, who added five.
NC State put together a 53.2 percent clip (33-of-62) as a team, marking its fifth time this season knocking down over half of its field-goal attempts. James and Hobby both shot 7-of-9 (.778) overall, with James hitting five of her six three point shots to obliterate her career high in that category.
Earning her first career start, Rivers stepped into her role as floor general with a well-balanced night that included five assists and just one turnover to go with her eight points. Hayes also impressed all-around, finishing just shy of double figures in scoring and adding eight rebounds and three assists.
After a slow start saw the Wolfpack and Wildcats head into the first media timeout knotted at 8-8, the Pack closed the opening frame on a 19-7 run to establish a 25-15 edge at the end of the first quarter.
NC State carried its strong offensive showing into the second quarter by beginning the period with back-to-back made three-pointers by Brown-Turner and Timmons. That forced Davidson into a timeout to halt the Pack's 14-0 run, which stretched just over three minutes of play across the first and second quarters.
NC State outscored the Wildcats 19-7 over the course of the second frame, which was the 13th time this season the Wolfpack's defense has limited an opponent to single digits in a quarter. Additionally, the first and second quarters were the 18th and 19th times in just 11 games that the Pack outscored an opponent by double digits over the course of a single period.
Totaling a 62.1 percent mark from the field and a 54.5 percent clip from beyond the arc in the first half, a dominating performance early was enough for the Pack to coast to a victory in the second half.
Despite Davidson trimming the Wolfpack's lead to as few as 18 in the third quarter, NC State responded with an 8-0 run to close the frame and regain momentum. As the two squads headed into the final quarter, the Pack iced the contest by adding 18 points in the fourth frame, half of which came from non-starters.
The win pushed Wes Moore's record against the Wildcats, a program he knows well from his time at Chattanooga, to 34-3 all-time and was NC State's ninth-straight win against Davidson dating back to 1975.
For the first time since the 2018-19 campaign, the Wolfpack will open conference play at home as it welcomes Clemson to Raleigh on Sunday, Dec. 18. Tip-off for the team's last game ahead of the holiday break is set for 6 p.m. on the ACC Network.
