IOWA CITY, Iowa – No. 12 NC State women's basketball (6-1) will take on No. 10 Iowa (5-2) in the 2022 installment of the ACC/B1G Challenge on Thursday night. The Pack's second ranked showdown of the season is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. local time) start from Carver-Hawkye Arena, and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
A WIN ON THURSDAY WOULD
• Be the 1,005th win in program history (1,004-479)
• Be head coach Wes Moore's 787th career win (786-239)
• Be Moore's 229th win at NC State (228-70)
• Secure the Pack's first victory over a ranked opponent this season and first true road win of the year
• Be the team's first road win over a top-10 opponent since last year's ACC/B1G Challenge win at sixth-ranked Indiana (Dec. 2, 2021)
• Extend the Wolfpack's ACC/B1G Challenge winning streak to four games
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
• The Pack is riding a three-game winning streak in the ACC/B1G Challenge with recent decisions over Michigan in 2018-19 (66-55), Maryland in 2019-20 (66-59) and at Indiana in 2021-22 (66-58).
• NC State is an even 7-7 in the ACC/B1G Challenge and is 5-3 under Moore's leadership.
• Thursday marks the Pack's third time in a row squaring off in a top-15 clash for its Challenge game.
NOTING THE WOLFPACK (6-1)
• NC State checked in at No. 12 in Monday's release of the AP Top 25, moving up a spot from last week's rankings after winning both games in the Cancun Challenge.
• The Wolfpack ranks in the top 20 nationally in: rebound margin (4th - +19.9), rebounds per game (6th - 48.1), scoring margin (13th - +27.4), field-goal percentage (18th - .484), scoring offense (19th - 83.1), three-point percentage 19th - .386).
• NC State is one of two schools (joining Illinois) to rank in the national top 30 in overall and three-point percentage offense and defense.
• Three Wolfpack players average 10+ points - Diamond Johnson (13.6), Jada Boyd (10.7) and Jakia Brown-Turner (10.3). All three of those players are shooting 45+ percent from the field.
• Over the last four contests, transfer center River Baldwin has totaled 38 points (9.5 per game), 16-of-23 shooting (.696) and 34 rebounds (8.5 per game). She secured the second double-double of her career and first with the Wolfpack with a team-leading 18 points (one short of her career-high) and 11 rebounds against West Virginia.
SERIES HISTORY (Iowa leads 2-1)
• Thursday marks the fourth overall meeting between NC State and Iowa.
• The teams last faced each other in the Sweet 16 of the 2019 NCAA Tournament. Iowa won that game by a 79-61 score.
• All three previous meetings between the squads have been neutral-site matchups. The Wolfpack and the Hawkeyes have faced off twice in the NCAA Tournament and once in a November tournament.
• The Pack's last win in the series was on Nov. 29, 2002 at the Loyola Marymount Classic in Los Angeles. NC State won by three points (69-66) in that overtime game.
