
NC State Breezes by West Virginia in Sixth Win of Year

CANCUN, Mexico – Thirteenth-ranked Wolfpack women's basketball (6-1) closed out Cancun Challenge action with a 38-point statement win, defeating West Virginia (4-1) by a 78-40 score on Friday afternoon.
River Baldwin enjoyed the best outing of her Wolfpack career as she notched her second collegiate double-double. She finished one point shy of her career high with 18 and also hauled in a career-high 11 rebounds. Seven of those were offensive boards, also a personal best mark for the center.
Diamond Johnson joined Baldwin in double figures with 16 (4-of-5 from distance), and it was a total team effort with all 10 players recording an assist and nine players scoring.
Overall, NC State out-rebounded West Virginia 57-31 (+26). In addition to Baldwin's team-leading 11 boards, senior center Camille Hobby pulled down nine to tie her career high.
After jumping out to an early 8-0 lead that forced a West Virginia timeout less than three minutes in, NC State quadrupled the Mountaineers' score in the second quarter. The Pack owned a 24-6 scoring advantage in that period, aided by a 13-0 run that spanned 3:41, as it took a 43-18 lead into halftime.
West Virginia did not manage to come closer than 19 points in the second half, and the Pack limited the Mountaineers to just with points again in the fourth quarter. NC State led by 25 or more for the entirety of the final period and scored the final 11 points of the game to put an exclamation mark on the win.
The Wolfpack shot 52.2 percent as a team (35-of-67) while limiting West Virginia to 22.7 percent (15-of-66). That marked the lowest shooting percentage by an opponent of NC State this season.
NC State continues its stretch of games away from home on Thursday, Dec. 1 when it travels to ninth-ranked Iowa. The contest, which is part of the annual ACC/B1G Challenge, will tip off at 8:30 p.m. EST on ESPN2.
