RALEIGH – The NC State men's basketball team is back in action Friday night when it hosts Campbell for a 7 p.m. tipoff at PNC Arena.

Pack Tracks
- NC State opened its 113th season of basketball Monday evening with a dominating 99-50 win over Austin Peay. The Pack held the Governors scoreless for over six minutes in the first half to build a 20-point lead, 26-6, 10 minutes into the ballgame and never looked back.
- Sophomore guard Terquavion Smith led NC State with 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting. It's the 14th 20+-point performance in 33 career games for the Greenville, N.C., native. It's also the 13th time in his career he's led NC State in scoring. Smith made three three-pointers on Monday night and now has 99 for his career. If he hits one three-pointer in his next game played that will put him at 100 three-pointers in 34 career games which will make him the fastest to 100 career three-pointers in NC State history.
- Monday night was the official debut of the Pack's four-man veteran transfer class (DJ Burns, Jack Clark, Jarkel Joiner and Dusan Mahorcic). The four players - who have all graduated from college - combined for 51 points on 22-of-30 shooting (73.3%), 25 rebounds, 10 assists and four steals. Joiner, playing in his 115th career game, passed out a career-high eight assists while adding 18 points. Burns, playing in his 91st career game, had the second double-double of his career with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
- Burns and Mahorcic led a rejuvenated NC State frontcourt attack on Monday night. The duo scored 18 points on a perfect 9-of-9 shooting and helped set the tone for an offensive attack that scored 50 points in the paint, more than any game last season.
Noting Campbell
- Campbell opened its season Monday night with a 79-62 win over Division II St. Augustine's.
- The Camels ranked as one of the nation's best defensive teams last season. Campbell held 22 of its 29 opponents below 70 points and ranked first in the Big South - 18th in the nation - in scoring defense (62.0 ppg.)
- Ricky Clemons was a preseason second team Big South selection. He averaged 9.8 points and 5.1 rebounds last season. Clemons had 13 points and seven rebounds in the Camels' season-opening win.
- Campbell was picked sixth in the preseason Big South Conference poll and received one vote in the preseason CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25.
Friday Storylines
- NC State has a 37-2 record against non-conference opponents in regular season home games under head coach Kevin Keatts.
- Shaking off last season: On Monday night, the Pack had numerous stats that were better than in any of the 32 games played last season. Not included in the chart is the Pack's 99 points scored. NC State did score 104 points in a game last season, but it was in NC State's four overtime win over Nebraska.
- Valuing the basketball: NC State only turned it over an average of 10 times per game last season. That was the lowest turnover average of the Keatts era and ranked third in the ACC. The 322 turnovers NC State committed last season are the fewest in a full season in program history. (The fewest turnovers ever committed by NC State in a season is 321 by the 2020-21 team but that team played 25 games, seven fewer than last season's team.)
NC State - Campbell Series
- NC State leads the all-time series with Campbell, 11-1, and has won six straight games in the series dating back to 1978.
- All 12 games in the series have been played in Raleigh, including three in PNC Arena.
- Kevin Keatts is 1-0 against Campbell as head coach of NC State. The Pack defeated Campbell, 69-50, on Dec. 19, 2020. Despite that game not even being two full years ago, none of the nine players that played in that game for NC State are still on the Pack's roster today. Ebenezer Dowuona and Chase Graham were both on the Pack's roster that season but did not play that day against the Camels.
- NC State has a 70-1 record all-time against teams currently in the Big South Conference.
