SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The NC State women's soccer team dropped its first road match of the season in a 3-0 loss at No. 17 Notre Dame on Thursday night.
NC State (7-4-3, 2-3-0 ACC) moved to 2-1-2 on the road this season in Thursday night's setback. The Wolfpack limited Notre Dame to just one shot on target in the first half before Korbin Albert's brace in the second half made it 3-0 Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame (10-2-0, 3-2-0 ACC) scored the game's opening goal in the 26th minute when Kiki Van Zanten converted from the spot. The Fighting Irish earned the penalty kick opportunity after the Pack's Leyah Hall-Robinson was called for a handball in the 18-yard box.
Notre Dame doubled its lead in the 65th minute when Albert finished from distance. She secured her brace in the 72nd minute to conclude the scoring.
Lulu Guttenberger fired one of the Pack's best efforts of the night off a direct free kick in the 66th minute, sending her shot just high and to the right of Notre Dame's goal. Hall-Robinson drew a yellow card outside the box to set up Guttenberger's shot attempt.
Four members of the Pack – Guttenberger, Brianna Weber, Fernanda Soto and Brooklyn Holt – recorded shot attempts on Thursday. The Wolfpack also recorded three corner kicks.
Goalkeeper Maria Echezarreta made three saves on the night in her 43rd consecutive start for the Pack.
