SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The NC State women's soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit to record a 1-1 draw at Syracuse, closing out its regular-season schedule with a point on the road.
After Syracuse (8-7-3, 1-6-3) opened the scoring with a penalty-kick goal in the fourth minute, NC State responded with the equalizer in the 70th minute when Jameese Joseph fired home a right-footed finish past the Syracuse goalkeeper. Joseph's strike marked her team-high eighth goal of the season to knot the game at 1-1.
NC State (7-7-5, 2-6-2) increased offensive pressure following Joseph's equalizer, firing four shots over the final 20 minutes in search of a game-winning goal. With less than a minute remaining, Joseph fired a shot on target, but Syracuse goalkeeper Michaela Walsh secured the draw with her final save of the night.
Despite allowing the opening goal, NC State outshot Syracuse 12-8 in the first half, firing three of its attempts on target. Leyah Hall-Robinson paced the Pack with five shots in the opening 45 minutes, recording a shot on goal in the 19th minute to force a save from Walsh.
The Pack logged 18 total shots, five of which were on frame. NC State also recorded five corner kicks over the 90 minutes.
Joseph led NC State with six shots, registering two attempts on target. Mia Vaughan provided the Pack with 46 minutes off the bench, ranking third on the team with three shots.
With her 94th career start, captain Lulu Guttenberger set a new NC State record for career appearances in a Wolfpack uniform, surpassing Jill Rutten's previous record of 93.
