
Linda Hamilton Named To National Soccer Hall of Fame

NC State women's soccer alumna Linda Hamilton was named to the National Soccer Hall of Fame, as announced by the organization. She is one of six members that make up the 2022 class, alongside Shannon Boxx, Clint Dempesy, Hope Solo, Marco Etcheverry and Esse Baharmast.

Hamilton played for the Wolfpack from 1987-89 and earned a combined five All-America honors in those three seasons from NSCAA and ISAA along with three All-ACC honors.

She was a part of the 1988 ACC Championship team and was named ACC Player of the Year for her efforts on the field as the team set a school record with 19 wins in that season. In her time at NC State, she was a part of 51 wins.

On the national stage, Hamilton led the Wolfpack to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a finals appearance in 1988 and a semifinals appearance in '89 against Tobacco Road rival North Carolina.

Following her collegiate career, she played 71 full internationals for the United States from 1987-95 and was a key defender for the U.S. team that won the first Women's World Cup in 1991 and played in the 1995 World Cup Tournament.

After her playing career, she returned to the college sidelines as an assistant coach with Hofstra in 2006 and took over the North Florida program from 2007-13. Her teams reached the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament three times after moving from Division II to Division I. During her lone season at Illinois College in 2014, Hamilton guided the side to a program-record 11 wins, going 11-5-2. She currently is the head coach at Southwestern University, where she has been since 2015.
