Pack Men Defeat UNCW, NC State Women Fall to Texas on Senior Night

RALEIGH – The No. 3 NC State men handled UNC Wilmington (184-86) on senior day from the very start, rounding out the night with the fastest time in every individual event.
On the women's side, the No. 5 Wolfpack women narrowly lost to second-ranked Texas 143.5-156.5.
RELAY HIGHLIGHTS:
The Wolfpack kicked off the last home dual of the season with wins on both sides in the 200-yard medley relay. The squad of Katharine Berkoff (24.15), Sophie Hansson (27.23), Kylee Alons (23.16), and Abby Arens (22.14) out-touched the Longhorns by .27 seconds with their winning time of 1:36.68.
On the men's side, the NC State 'B' relay quartet of Aiden Hayes (21.97), Jack Moranetz (24.24), Noah Henderson (20.59), and David Curtiss (18.82) started the action with a new pool record time of 1:25.62. They were closely followed by the Pack 'A' relay team of Kacper Stokowski, Rafal Kusto, Noah Bowers, and Sam Hoover, who finished less than half a second behind (1:26.08).
NC State rounded out the night by posting the fastest times in the 400-yard freestyle relay on both sides. Berkoff, Webb, Alons, and Crush logged a time of 3:16.57 for the victory, while Korstanje, Curtiss, Piszczorowicz, and Bowers posted the fastest time (2:54.49) on the men's side.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS:
Raleigh native Abby Arens started off her night with a new pool record in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.42). The crowd was electric as she captured the top spot, just .18 ahead of Texas' Emma Sticklen. Arens grabbed her second win of the night in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:57.70.
The men's first of ten sweeps came in the 200-yard freestyle where Hunter Tapp (1:35.55), Noah Bowers (1:36.82), and Ross Dant (1:38.45) secured first, second, and third places, respectively.
Junior Katharine Berkoff took home a pair of wins in the 100 (51.63) and 200 (1:53.31) backstrokes, edging out her opponent, Olivia Bray from Texas, by less than a second in both events.
The men's second sweep of the night came in the 100-yard backstroke where senior Giovanni Izzo (47.65), Zachary Cram (49.40), Michael Moore (49.63), and David Curtiss (49.97) took the top four spots.
Kylee Alons closed out her senior night by picking up a win in the 50-yard freestyle (22.92) and grabbed third in the 100-yard butterfly (52.75).
The second pool record of the evening came from Nyls Korstanje's exhibition performance in the 100-yard butterfly, where his time of 44.76 was well below the previous record of 46.08.
On the boards, junior Bayne Bennett scored the most points in the one-meter (387.38), which stands as a new pool and program record. Teammate Matt Sexton grabbed the victory on the three-meter (333.40).
UP NEXT:
The Pack will begin preparation for the 2022 ACC Swimming and Diving Championship meet, which will be contested at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga. The championship will take place Feb. 15-19.
