GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State women's tennis rookie Priska Nugroho has been named ACC Freshman of the Week after helping the Wolfpack open its dual match campaign with a 3-0 weekend.
After making her collegiate debut at the Miami Spring Invite Jan. 15-17, Nugroho and the eighth-ranked Wolfpack officially stepped into dual action with three home matches against No. 23 Princeton, No. 10 Ohio State and ETSU on Saturday and Sunday.
Nugroho went a perfect 3-0 in doubles action with partner Sara Nayar and also added a pair of singles victories over the course of the weekend. Her doubles wins against Princeton and Ohio State helped the Wolfpack secure crucial opening points, as both of those top-25 team wins for NC State were by 4-3 scores decided by doubles. Nugroho and Nayar then wrapped up the weekend by defeating No. 44 Yunuen Elizarraras and Fernanda Carvajal of ETSU, the first ranked doubles win of Nugroho's career.
The Jakarta, Indonesia, native also stood out in singles action, playing at the No. 3 spot for the first two matches of the weekend and moving up to the No. 2 court against ETSU. Nugroho kicked off the weekend with her first ranked singles win, defeating No. 60 Brianna Shvets of Princeton by a convincing 6-2, 6-4 score. She also earned the 6-4, 6-1 straight-sets win against the Bucanneers on Sunday.
NC State returns to action Saturday and Sunday as it hosts the 2022 ITA Kick Off Weekend in Raleigh. The Wolfpack takes on Iowa State at 11 a.m. on Saturday and will play either Northwestern or Wake Forest on Sunday.
