Steinlechner opened the season with a career-best 13-under par score at Rod Myers Invitational
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's golfer Maximilian Steinlechner is ranked as the number one golfer in collegiate golf according to Golfweek's ratings.
As a team, NC State is ranked eighth in Golfweek team rankings after opening the season with a second-place finish at the Rod Myers Invitational.
Steinlechner has played in one tournament this season, shooting 13-under par to finish in second place at the Rod Myers Invitational.
For his career, Steinlechner has six top-five finishes and his performance at the Rod Myers Invitational was his third career second place finish. The 54-hole score of 13-under par ties for Steinlechner's career best and is tied for the fifth-best 54-hole score related to par in program history.
Last season, in his first full season as a collegiate golfer, Steinlechner had a fantastic sophomore season. He earned honorable mention All-American honors and was named to the All-ACC team.
The Innsbruck, Austria native finished second on team to Benjamin Shipp with a 70.87 scoring average and had five top-five performances in 10 tournaments.
Steinlechner's 70.87 scoring average ranked as the sixth-best single season mark in program history.
After starting the season with two finishes in the upper-half of the field, Steinlechner went on a roll, finishing five consecutive tournaments in the top-five and all under-par.
