
Women’s Soccer Welcomes No. 5 Virginia Sunday

RALEIGH – In its second of a three-game home stretch, NC State women's soccer (4-4-2, 0-2-0 ACC) is set to welcome No. 5 Virginia (9-1-0, 2-0-02 ACC) Sunday afternoon to Dail Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast on ACCNX.
FREE ADMISSION
Beginning in 2021, NC State women's soccer games are free of charge. Gates will open one hour prior to the start of each match. As NC State works toward a more normal on-campus experience, NC State Athletics will continue abiding by the current policies for campus as outlined in the University Community Standards.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolfpack suffered a 2-1 loss on Thursday night to No. 16 Clemson in its ACC home opener. Despite scoring in the first 15 minutes of a match for the fifth time this season, the Tigers managed to knot the score late in the first half off a penalty kick, and then found the back of the net in the final minutes of the contest to come away with the victory.
Annika Wohner tallied her third goal of the season in the ninth minute and is tied for second in scoring on the team, while Lulu Guttenberger was credited with her team-leading fourth assist of the year.
CAREER NIGHT FOR CHEZA
Freshman goalkeeper Maria Echezarreta tallied a career-high six saves on Thursday against Clemson, doubling her previous career high.
She currently ranks fourth in the ACC in goals-against average (0.97), and eighth in saves (22) and save percentage (2.20 PG). Echezarreta additionally is one of two freshmen to rank in the top eight among the league in those three categories.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday will be the 45th all-time meeting between NC State and Virginia, as the Cavaliers lead the series, 27-13-4.
The last two times the squads have met in Raleigh they have battled to a 0-0 (2OT) draw, with the most recent meeting coming on October 9, 2019.
A TOUGH SLATE
Sunday will be NC State's sixth of 10 opponents on its regular-season schedule that are ranked or receiving votes in the latest national polls. The contest with Virginia will additionally be its fifth contest against a top 20 opponent this year.
Additionally, its next five opponents are listed in the top 38 of the latest NCAA RPI (rating percentage index).
