A WIN FRIDAY WOULD
• Be the 536th win in program history (535-465-102)
• Be the 197th win in head coach George Kiefer's career (196-116-65)
• Be Kiefer's 35th victory at NC State (34-30-14)
• Be Kiefer's 10th ACC victory with the Wolfpack (9-19-9)
SERIES HISTORY (Series tied 2-2-1)
• Friday marks the sixth overall meeting between NC State and Notre Dame.
• With the adjusted schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NC State and Notre Dame did not face each other during the 2020-21 season.
• The Wolfpack won the first matchup between the teams in 1990 and the most recent matchup in 2019.
• NC State last faced off against Notre Dame on Oct. 4, 2019. That match, which was played in Raleigh, ended at a 2-0 score in the Pack's favor. Kuda Muskwe (35') and Pepe Garcia (54') were the goal scorers that night.
• NC State has traveled to Notre Dame just once in program history. The squad visited the Fighting Irish in September of 2017 in a matchup that Notre Dame won 3-0.
LAST TIME OUT
• NC State defeated James Madison by a 2-0 score in a mid-week non-conference matchup played at home on Tuesday night.
• Jamie Smith's set piece brace highlighted the night as he scored both of the Wolfpack's goals off of free kicks. The center back opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a rocket that went over JMU's wall, and he curved the next one around the right side of the wall in the 55th minute.
• Leon Krapf made four saves in the outing, three of which came in the first half. The Dukes' lone goal was scored in the 90th minute.
• Garcia was also active on the defensive side of the ball, coming up clutch in some key first-half moments. He blocked three shots in the opening period, with two of those coming after saves by Krapf that prevented the Dukes from scoring on the ensuing rebounds.
TRACKING THE PACK (4-2-0, 0-1-0 ACC)
• The Pack's 81 shot attempts have been distributed among 16 different players, led by 17 strikes from Henrique Santos.
• Santos ranks in a tie for fifth in the league with his average of 2.83 shots per game.
• Seven players have found the back of the net in 2021, with Luke Hille's three goals still pacing the team.
• NC State ranks in the national top 50 in the following categories: total goals (11 - 26th), goal differential (4 - 44th), total points (30 - 45th).
• Krapf ranks fifth in the ACC with his .759 save percentage on the season.
SET PIECE SMITH
Smith's pair of free kick goals marked the second multi-goal game for a member of the Wolfpack this season. Smith joined teammate Hille as two of just 10 players in the ACC to accomplish a multi-goal game in the early stages of the season. Smith's performance marked the first time in the Kiefer era that more than one goal has been tallied by a defender.
STRENGTH IN THE PACK
The depth of NC State's 2021 squad has been on full display in the early season. The Pack has gone with six different starting lineups, and a total of 24 players (22 field players, 2 goalkeepers) have seen time on the field this year. Eleven of those players have tallied either a goal or an assist this season.
COMING UP
NC State will take a week between games before returning to the pitch Friday, Sept. 24 to host Wake Forest. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start from Dail Soccer Stadium, and live video coverage will be provided by ACCNX.
