Wolfpack Prepared to Open Season at adidas XC Challenge

RALEIGH - The NC State cross country programs are slated to begin their 2021 seasons Friday, Sept. 17 at the adidas XC Challenge at the WakeMed Cross Country Course in Cary, N.C. The meet will mark the only home competition for the Wolfpack in 2021.
NC State will be joined at the competition by Campbell, the Davidson women, Duke, NC A&T, NC Central, the North Carolina men, UNC Greensboro and Wake Forest.

PACK IN THE POLLS
The Wolfpack women open their 2021 campaign ranked first in the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll, the ACC Preseason Coaches' Poll and the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Poll. NC State claimed its number one position nationally on Tuesday, Sept. 14, tied for the position with BYU. The first-place ranking is the first in program history.
The women's team received 14 of the league's 15 first-place votes in the ACC poll.
NC State's men were selected to finish third in the ACC, having received one first-place vote. The team received votes in the Sept. 14 edition of the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll and checked into the most recent Regional rankings at fifth in the Southeast.
LOOKING BACK AT 2020
The teams posted impressive seasons in 2020, both placing in the top 25 nationally to finish the year. The Wolfpack women took home their fifth-straight conference title, led by 2020 ACC individual champion Dominique Clairmonte, in addition to second place at the NCAA Championships, tying the best program finish. The men placed 23rd overall, improving on their finish from 2019 (26th).
Three members of the women's squad garnered All-America honors as Hannah Steelman, Kelsey Chmiel and Katelyn Tuohy each recorded top-25 individual finishes at the national meet.
NC State's men's team placed second at the ACC Championships for its highest finish since 2015, when it also finished second. All five of the squad's scorers at the conference championships earned All-ACC honors. The Pack additionally placed 23rd overall at the NCAA Championships, improving on their finish from 2019 (26th).
PARKING AND SPECTATOR INFORMATION
Fans will be permitted to attend the 2021 adidas XC Challenge. Social distancing is recommended and masks are encouraged when proper social distancing cannot be maintained.
Parking will be free at the WakeMed Cross Country Course for Friday's races.

The Wolfpack is set to compete at a pair of meets Oct. 1-2, traveling to South Bend, Ind., for the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame Friday, Oct. 1 and to Cary, N.C., for the Great American XC Challenge Saturday, Oct. 2.
