Wolfpack Wraps up Day One of Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. - In what was the Wolfpack's first tournament of the 2021-22 schedule, the NC State women's golf team finished day one of the 2021 Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C., in 15th place on Monday.
With all players completing 36 holes, the Pack was led by Isabel Amezcua and Inja Fric who currently sit at 146 (+2) through two rounds.
Amezcua is the lone player to file an under-par round thus far, shooting a three-over 75 in the morning session and a one-under 71 in the afternoon pairings, with her afternoon round being highlighted by four back-nine birdies. Her 71 marked a career low.
As for Fric, the junior went 72-74 on Monday.
Lauren Olivares Leon currently sits at 149 (+5), having followed up a morning 77 with a bounce-back 72 in her first collegiate tournament.
Like Olivares Leon, Lea Klimentova and Natalie Armbruester each posted solid recovery rounds, with Klimentova following up her morning 77 with an afternoon 73, and Armbruester going 78-73 on the day.
As a team, NC State shot 14-over 590 as it opened the day with a 301 (+13), then bounced back with a one-over par 289 in the second round thanks to four of its five players improving their scores from the first to the second rounds.
Georgia (560, -16) leads the 17-team field, while Arkansas (565, -11), Florida (567, -9) and UCF (567, -9) round out the top of the team leaderboard. Additionally, Brooke Matthews leads the individual leaderboard with a 17-under 127.
The third and final round of competition takes place on Tuesday in an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
