Wolfpack Opens Fall Play at Gator Fall Invite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The NC State men's tennis program opened its fall competition slate on Friday, competing at the Gator Fall Invite.
On Friday, the squad competed primarily against South Carolina and collected two doubles wins alongside four singles victories.
The duo of Joseph Schrader and Yannai Barkai defeated Connor Thomson and Beau Pelletier, 8-7, as Fons Van Sambeek and Martins Rocens saw an 8-6 victory over Florida's Blaise Bicknell and Josh Goodger.
Junior Robin Catry led the way in singles competition with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over No. 49 Toby Samuel while Barkai posted a ranked win over 56th-ranked James Story.
Braden Shick and Van Sambeek tabbed their first collegiate victories as Shick easily took down Jake Beasley in straight sets with his 6-0, 6-2 victory. Van Sambeek's win came against Carter Morgan with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
Saturday's competition was against Florida, and NC State split the four doubles matches evenly with the Gators. Catry and Damien Salvestre took down Andy Andrade and Will Grant 8-3 in their first match together, and Van Sambeek and Rocens paired up again for their second-straight win, this time defeating Ben Shelton and Bonetto 8-3.
In singles, Barkai was the only member of the Wolfpack with a win (7-5, 0-1) as Abedallah Shelbayh retired from the match. Catry, Van Sambeek and Collin Shick each forced a third set in their singles matches but ultimately were not able to clinch the victories.
