
NC State Drops Season Opener Against ETSU

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – NC State volleyball was unable to hold off East Tennessee State and dropped a 3-0 (26-28, 26-28, 28-30) decision in non-conference volleyball action at the Tennessee Classic on Friday evening.
The Pack (0-1) fought hard each set by knotting the score at 24 but the Buccaneers (1-1) kept their composure to earn their first win on the season.
Freshman Jada Allen led the way offensively boasting a .500 hitting percentage in her first career game as she tallied nine kills with a game-high tying two service aces and six digs. Junior Taylor Rowland posted a game-best 12 kills with two blocks and an ace.
Junior Kristen McDaniel secured a match-high 44 assists and a team-high 11 digs to record the first Wolfpack double-double of the season while graduate student Melissa Evans nearly tallied a double-double with 10 kills and seven digs. McDaniel added two service aces to her stat line which tied her career high.
Set One (NC State 26, ETSU 28)
The first set was a battle as neither team was able to gain more than a three-point lead. There were 13 ties and two lead changes. Both teams struggled offensively but the Buccaneers were able to tally back to back kills to seal the deal in the end. McDaniel had a nice set as she posted 10 assists and six digs.
Set Two (NC State 26, ETSU 28)
NC State opened the second set with fierce energy led by McDaniel beginning with an ace that eventually turned into a 4-0 lead. The Pack was in a smooth rhythm before ETSU reeled off a 10-4 run to knot the score at 24. The Buccaneers completed the comeback with a kill and a block to go up 2-0.
Set Three (NC State 28, ETSU 30)
ETSU started out on fire and controlled all the momentum early in set three, jumping out to a solid 8-3 lead. Trailing 22-17, the Pack went on a 7-2 run highlighted by three kills from Allen to tie the score at 24-all. Despite tying the score the Pack was not able to get over the hump to take the lead and fell in the last set, 30-28.

NC State will wrap up competition at the Tennessee Classic on Saturday by playing two matches. The Pack will start the day with a 10 a.m. bout against Texas Tech before the nightcap against Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network Plus.
