
Johnson, USA U19 Women Take Home Gold at 2021 World Cup

DEBRECEN, Hungary – Diamond Johnson added to NC State women's basketball's summer gold medal count as she helped USA Basketball's U19 team defeat Australia, 70-52, in the 2021 World Cup final on Sunday afternoon.

In the title game, Johnson led the United States in scoring with 15 points. The guard shot 6-of-10 from the floor and knocked down three triples in what was her best scoring output of the World Cup run.
The Philadelphia, Pa., native continued to prove herself as one of the best guards in the nation as she helped the United States to an unbeaten 7-0 record in the World Cup. Throughout the entire tournament, Johnson averaged 12.6 points, 51.1 percent shooting (37-of-72), 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game. She scored in double figures in all but one outing.

Team USA defeated its opponents by an average of 47 points in its perfect week at the World Cup. The team picked up earlier wins against Italy (96-37), Australia (99-59), Egypt (97-36), Chinese Taipei (129-45), Spain (98-64) and Hungary (75-42) on its march to the championship game.
The event wrapped up NC State's summer of action with USA Basketball. The Wolfpack will now turn its attention to the 2021-22 collegiate campaign, which opens at home for NC State on Tuesday, Nov. 9 as it hosts South Carolina.
