Cunningham Moves On to 100m Hurdles Semifinals at USATF Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. - A pair of current NC State track & field student-athletes and one program alumna competed at the USA Track & Field Olympic Trials on Saturday, competing in the women's 100m hurdles and the men's 100m.
Gabriele Cunningham, a 2019 graduate of the Wolfpack program, recorded a second-place finish in her 100m hurdles heat to auto-qualify to Sunday's semifinal round. She ran a personal-best 12.67 for the eighth-fastest time overall.
Akira Rhodes, the 2021 ACC silver medalist in the women's 100m hurdles, competed in the event as well. She ran a 13.39, the 29th-quickest overall mark.
Rounding out the group of Saturday competitors was Cravont Charleston, who represented NC State in the men's 100m. The Charlotte, N.C., native posted a 10.23 for fourth place in his heat and the 23rd-best mark overall.Â
UP NEXT
Cunningham will compete in the women's 100m hurdles semifinals Sunday, June 20 as she looks to advance to the final that will also take place Sunday. Additionally, Hannah Steelman will compete Sunday in the first round of the women's 3000m steeplechase.
