Wolfpack Moves On to NCAA Championships Second Round with 4-0 Win Over VCU

RALEIGH – The sixth-ranked NC State women's tennis team (17-5) defeated visiting VCU (14-10) 4-0 to advance to the second round of the NCAA Championships for the second time in a row and the fifth time in program history.
The Wolfpack's victory marked its second NCAA Championships appearance in a row during which it defeated the Rams in the first round, as it also did so in 2019. Friday's match was the 20th all time between the squads, and NC State evened the series at 10 apiece with the team win.
The doubles point went to the Pack for the fourth match in a row as NC State's top two courts each earned 6-3 victories. Twelfth-ranked Anna Rogers and Alana Smith beat out Luminita Tutunaru on one, and fifth-ranked Jaeda Daniel and Adriana Reami followed up with the ranked victory over No. 73 Paola Delgado and Noumea Witmus.
Daniel kept things rolling in singles action with an absolutely dominant performance over Gabriella Davidescu on court four. Her match took less than an hour, and she did not drop a game on the way to the 6-0, 6-0 decision.
Smith followed up shortly after with the 6-0, 7-5 win over Tutunaru on court two, and Reami closed things out with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Alessia Ciuca on court four.
NC State moves on to face No. 38 Iowa State (14-7) in the round of 32 on Saturday, with that match set for a 2 p.m. start in Raleigh. Due to capacity guidelines from the NCAA and the state of North Carolina, seating in the stadium is limited to family members and guests of participating teams only. The general public is free to view the matches from the grass hill outside the facility. Should the match be moved indoors, it will be closed to the public.
