Tournament will be hosted at Rich Harvest Farms on June 11-13
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's golfer Benjamin Shipp has been named to the United States Team for the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup, which will be hosted by Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., on June 11-13, 2021.
The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top male university/college golfers matching the United States against Europe.
Shipp has had a terrific senior season, winning two tournaments (Schenkel Invitational and Hootie Intercollegiate) to give him five for his career. His five collegiate wins are tied for the third-most in NC State history.
The Duluth Ga., native's current season stroke average of 70.00 would be the best in program history and his career stroke average of 71.23 is the third-best in program history.
In his last four tournaments, Shipp has shot a combined 48-under par. He has two wins, a second place finish (ACC Championship) and a tie for fifth place (Stitch Intercollegiate) during that span and has completed 12 straight rounds at par or better.
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and began at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Fla. in 1997. In 2018, it became the only major tournament which features men and women playing side-by-side as partners.
Since its inception, 101 former Arnold Palmer Cup alumni have gone on to earn cards on either the PGA or European Tours, 25 alumni have gone on to represent Europe or the USA in the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup, and 53 have claimed 1916 victories on the PGA or European Tours. The United States leads the series 11-9-1.
