
No. 25 Galarneau Advances to Round of 16 at NCAA Singles Championships

LAKE NONA, Fla. - Twenty-fifth-ranked Alexis Galarneau continued competition at the 2021 NCAA Singles Championship on Monday, defeating No. 42 Adria Soriano Barrera of Miami in a 6-1, 6-0 decision. With the win, Galarneau earns All-America honors for the second consecutive season and advances to the round of 16.
The Laval, Canada, native's berth in the round of 16 is the first by an NC State singles competitor since 2009 when Jay Weinacker made a run to the semifinals. Additionally, his second All-America honors make him the third player in program history to garner to accolades twice.
Galarneau will face the winner of Alexsandar Kovacevic (Illinois) and No. 23 Eliot Spizzirri (Texas) Tuesday, May 25. The match time will be announced at a later time.

SCOUTING KOVACEVIC
Kovacevic opened the NCAA Singles Championships with a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 26 Tyler Stice for his third top-50 win of the season. His first-round win marked the 100th singles win of his career.
SCOUTING SPIZZIRRI
Twenty-third-ranked Spizzirri defeated Tennessee's No. 8 Johannus Monday in the first round, 6-4, 7-5. The sophomore took down three top-10 opponents throughout 2021 action, including a win over No. 2 Daniel Rodrigues of South Carolina in the NCAA Team Championships.
ATTENDANCE INFORMATION
The NCAA increased attendance at the NCAA Singles Championships to 100%. Fans can purchase tickets for all singles and doubles championships matches Sunday, May 23 through Friday, May 28.
