LAKE NONA, Fla. - NC State men's tennis fifth year Alexis Galarneau's career came to a close on Tuesday as he fell to Aleksandar Kovacevic, 6-4, 4-6, 0-6, in the NCAA Singles Championships Round of 16.
Play was back-and-forth in the first set, but Galarneau was able to break to go up 4-3. The fifth year ultimately took the set 6-4.
Kovacevic claimed a back-and-forth second set before going on to take the final set without losing a game.
GALARNEAU'S CAREER
The Laval, Canada, native leaves the NC State program as one of the most impactful players in recent history. He garnered All-ACC accolades in all four years of his career that the honors were awarded, one of only two four-time All-ACC honorees in program history.
Galarneau earned All-America honors in 2020 and 2021, joining John Sadri and Andy Andrews as NC State's only two-time All-Americans. His NCAA Singles Championships berth in 2021 marked the third bid of his career.
With 77 career singles wins, the fifth year checks into the program record book with the eighth-most singles wins. A 70-win doubles career places him at fifth-most doubles victories in NC State history.
Galarneau put in the work in the classroom as well, earning All-ACC Academic Team honors in 2018 and 2019.
