Rogers Moves On to NCAA Singles Round of 32

LAKE NONA, Fla. – Wolfpack women's tennis fifth-year senior Anna Rogers punched her ticket to the next round of the NCAA Singles Championships with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 win over Pepperdine's Ashley Lahey on Sunday afternoon.
The First Team All-ACC performer and 2020 NCAA Singles All-American earned her spot in the Round of 32 for the second-straight time with what was her 12th victory over a nationally-ranked opponent this season.
In the first set, sixth-ranked Rogers and 77th-ranked Lahey traded quite a few breaks as they settled in. Rogers held serve to go up 6-5 and then secured another break to take the first set.
Lahey took the second set by another narrow score, 6-4, but Rogers took control in the third set. The Stamford, Conn., native won the final four games of the frame to take it by a 6-3 score and close out the victory.
Wolfpack junior Alana Smith also competed on Sunday, her first time making an appearance in the NCAA singles draw. Smith bounced back from a set deficit to send her match to a third frame, but No. 17 Alexa Noel (Iowa) hung on for the 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win.
Rogers advances to take on No. 46 Ayana Akli (Maryland) in the second round on Monday. NC State will also open action with the first round of action in the NCAA Doubles Championships, with Rogers and Smith set to pair up and Jaeda Daniel and Adriana Reami making their debuts at the national tournament.
