LAKE NONA, Fla. - No. 25 Alexis Galarneau defeated No. 15 Trent Bryde of Georgia 6-1, 6-4 on Sunday in the NCAA Singles Championship, punching his ticket to the round of 32 for the first time in his career.
Galarneau will face No. 42 Adria Soriano Barrera (Miami) Monday, May 24. The match time will be announced a later time.
The fifth year made quick work of the first set, going up 5-0 before taking the set 6-1. The second set saw a back-and-forth competition between Galarneau and Bryde, but ultimately Galarneau was able to take it 6-4.
SCOUTING SORIANO BARRERA
Soriano Barrera put together an 8-5 dual match singles record in 2021 that included three wins over ranked opponents. The senior's highest-ranked victory came in Miami's first match of the season as he took down UCF's Gabriel Decamps, who was ranked No. 16 at the time.
Galarneau and Soriano Barrera squared off against each other in NC State's regular-season win over then-No. 44 Miami. The pair was locked in a three-set battle when the match was decided and did not finish their competition.
