Wolfpack’s Historic NCAA Championships Run Ends In Semifinals Against Texas

LAKE NONA, Fla. – The sixth-ranked NC State women's tennis team's historic NCAA Championships run came to a close in the national semifinals on Friday morning. The Wolfpack fell to second-ranked Texas, with the Longhorns prevailing by a 4-0 margin in the Final Four matchup.
NC State finishes the 2021 dual match campaign with a 20-6 record, with those 20 victories marking the second most in team history. The Wolfpack's appearance in the Final Four is the deepest run the squad has ever made at the NCAA Championships and was its first season advancing past the Round of 16. The sixth-seeded Pack spent the entire season ranked in the national top 15, and nearly half of its wins in 2021 were against nationally-ranked opponents.
NC State lost the doubles point for just the fifth time this season after entering the match having won the last seven. The Longhorns took narrow 6-4 decisions on courts one and three, and play was halted on two where fifth-ranked Jaeda Daniel and Adriana Reami held a 5-4 lead.
Texas (30-1) then jumped out to a set lead on all six singles courts. The Pack fought back in some tight second sets, but the Longhorns were able to get straight-sets victories on courts one, four and six to secure the team win.
The Wolfpack now turns its attention to the season-ending NCAA Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships, which will be played May 23-28 in Lake Nona. NC State will be represented by a pair of singles players - Anna Rogers and Alana Smith - and two doubles duos - Rogers/Smith and Jaeda Daniel/Adriana Reami. The draw for the individual competition will be released on Saturday.
