GREENSBORO, N.C. – Thanks to the Wolfpack's comeback win in its season finale over Boston College last weekend, Toni Starova and Maria Echezarreta of the NC State women's soccer team picked up weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Starova was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week and Echezarreta was tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week, as this marks the first weekly honors of their respective careers.
On April 17, the Pack scored three unanswered goals in the second half to capture a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over the Eagles at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Starova, a Prague, Czech Republic native, tallied her first career brace in the contest as she scored the equalizer in the 55th minute and then put away a late insurance goal in the 87th minute. The goals were her only two of the season, but they could not have come at a better time.
Echezarreta, a freshman from Aviles, Spain, allowed an early goal from Boston College but held strong the remainder of the contest to help her team collect the win. She made three saves in the contest, highlighted by a pair in the second half after the equalizer from the Wolfpack to level the match at one. In her first season with the Pack, she conceded just six goals in nine matches (.63 GAA) and earned three shutouts while playing every minute in goal.
