RALEIGH - The No. 25 NC State men's tennis team (10-7, 7-3 ACC) fell to 10th-ranked Wake Forest (26-5, 11-1 ACC) on Saturday in a 7-0 decision.
NC State celebrated its senior class at the match, recognizing the contributions that seniors Tadas Babelis, Alexis Galarneau, Joseph Schrader, Tristan Smith and Robert Turzak made to the Wolfpack team during their time in school.
DOUBLES
Doubles play was back-and-forth, and the score was knotted up multiple times on courts one and two.
On court three, Melios Efstathiou and Taha Baadi defeated Turzak and Collin Shick, 6-1, for the first doubles win of the day.
The Demon Deacons went on to take the doubles point with No. 17 Eduardo Nava and Henri Squire's 6-4 victory over No. 23 Babelis and Yannai Barkai.
Galarneau and Robin Catry, playing doubles together for the first time since NC State's win over Texas in 2020, took down Matthew Thomson and Siddhant Banthia, 6-4, for NC State's only doubles win of the match.
SINGLES
Wake Forest took the first three singles matches to claim the team victory. The Demon Deacons' first win was on court one, where No. 11 Squire defeated Babelis 6-2, 6-3.
Banthia put Wake Forest a point away from clinching the match with his 6-4, 6-4 victory over Schrader, and Filippo Moroni got the clinch with a 6-1, 7-5 defeat of Collin Shick.
Play continued on the remaining courts, but the Demon Deacons claimed victory on all three. No. 109 Baadi defeated Catry 7-6(4), 6-3 while No. 32 Nava got the 6-4, 7-5 win over Turzak.
Rrezart Cungu rounded out Wake Forest's wins with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Barkai.
STRAIGHT FROM THE PACK: HEAD COACH KYLE SPENCER
"I thought the guys played really hard today," said head coach Kyle Spencer. "They fought really hard. We obviously had a couple of new doubles pairings out there. Doubles didn't go our way, and then in singles we had a lot of close sets and just weren't able to get over the hump in some of the matches.
"With having the break - we had about a 10-day break - there was a little bit of rust out there. I'm really looking forward to next week and the ACC Championship."
UP NEXT
The Wolfpack turns its attention to the postseason. The ACC Tournament will run April 21-25 in Rome, Ga.
