Wolfpack Ready for ACC Tennis Championships

RALEIGH - The fourth-seeded NC State men's tennis team (10-7, 7-3) begins ACC Championships action Friday, April 23 at 2:30 p.m at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga. The Wolfpack will face the winner of Thursday's matchup between five-seed Notre Dame (14-9, 7-5 ACC) and 12-seed Florida State (9-15, 2-10 ACC).
The matches will not be live streamed with the exception of Sunday's Championship match, which will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra. Due to COVID-19 protocols, no public tickets will be made available for the ACC Championship.
PACK IN THE RANKINGS
NC State remained ranked 25th in the most recent Oracle/ITA team rankings. In singles, Alexis Galarneau checks in at No. 22 while Rafa Izquierdo Luque sits at No. 79.
Tadas Babelis and Yannai Barkai remain the Wolfpack's highest-ranked doubles pair at No. 31. Babelis is additionally ranked with Robin Catry in doubles at 41st. Galarneau and Robert Turzak are the team's final ranked duo at No. 56.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State fell to then-No. 10 Wake Forest in a 7-0 decision in its first match in over two weeks.
Despite the loss, the Wolfpack put up a strong showing. Alexis Galarneau and Robin Catry teamed up in doubles to get a 6-4 win.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING IRISH
Notre Dame faces off with Florida State Thursday afternoon. The Fighting Irish have compiled a 14-9 overall record in 2021. A 7-5 conference record was good to secure Notre Dame the five seed in the tournament.
Three Fighting Irish singles competitors were ranked in the most recent Oracle/ITA rankings. Axel Nefve checks in at No. 27, Richard Ciamarra sits at No. 66, and Tristan McCormick rounds out the singles rankings at No. 116.
McCormick and Nefve are ranked in doubles together, checking in at at No. 37. Nefve is additionally ranked in doubles with Ciamarra at No. 40
SCOUTING THE SEMINOLES
Florida State began its tournament with a 4-0 win over 13-seed Boston College. The team opened the match by clinching the doubles point and went on from there to take three consecutive singles matches.
The Seminoles have one ranked singles player in No. 110 Louis Pourroy. Pourroy is additionally ranked in doubles with Marcus Walters at No. 43.
UP NEXT
With a win Friday, NC State will face the winner of one-seed Virginia and eight-seed Georgia Tech/nine-seed Miami Saturday.
