Softball Returns Home for Non-Conference Matchup

RALEIGH, N.C. – After a two-week road stint, the NC State softball team returns home this weekend for a non-conference series against in-state opponent, North Carolina A&T. The series kicks off Friday, Apr. 2 at 12 p.m. for a doubleheader before concluding Saturday at 12 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on ACCNX.
Attendance at NC State softball games continues to be limited to player and staff guests only.
#HOMERUNMINDSET
NC State leads the ACC and ranks 16th in the NCAA with 1.48 home runs per game. The Wolfpack has led the ACC and been in the top-20 every week since opening its 2021 schedule. NC State has hit 37 home runs through 25 games, and is just two shy of breaking into the top-10 single-season marks at NC State.
Randi Farricker currently leads the ACC with eight home runs this season, which ranks in the top 50 nationally. Farricker's slugging percentage, .783, is third in the ACC as 14 of her 16 hits this season have been for extra bases. As a team, NC State has 10 different players with at least one home run this season including five with five or more.
HOME SWEET HOME
NC State returns home, where the team has a 12-6 record inside Dail Stadium. The Wolfpack opened the season with 18-straight home games. NC State has had a winning record at home the last two-straight seasons.
A LOOK AT NORTH CAROLINA A&T
North Carolina A&T has been out of action the last week, however, the Aggies are coming off a 3-1 series win against MEAC opponent, Florida A&M. North Carolina A&T concluded that series with a walk-off home run for the 8-6 win. The Aggies are led by head coach Patti Radunez who is in her second season at A&T, after a shortened 2020 campaign. Radunez is familiar with the ACC, previously coaching as an assistant at North Carolina.
Alyxx Estrada and Kendall Maccauley lead the Aggies, both with a .397 batting average. Estrada also has a team-best .635 slugging percentage and four triples while her .494 on-base percentage leads the MEAC. In the pitching circle, S'Nyiah Stinson and Kiara Richards have split most of the time, having 53.1 and 52.2 innings pitched, respectively. Stinson has a team-best 5.57 ERA with a 3-6 record and 32 strikeouts.

The two teams last met in 2020, where NC State won both meetings in run-rule fashion. The first game of the weekend featured the first collegiate start in the circle for Sam Gress, where she became the second NC State freshman to throw a no-hitter in her first collegiate start. She was the first since Megan Dalthorp on Feb. 12, 2005.
Offensively, Carson Shaner hit two home runs in the win while NC State hit four total. In the second game of the weekend, rigette Nordberg went 3-for-4 at the plate with six RBIs and the game ending home run.
NC State is 4-0 all-time against the Aggies with three of the four all-time meetings taking place at Dail Softball Stadium.
