Gymnastics Heads to Athens for NCAA Regional

RALEIGH - The 26th-ranked NC State gymnastics team begins its 2021 NCAA Regionals campaign Thursday, April 1 at 3 p.m. as it travels to the Athens, Ga., Regional to take on T-No. 35 Western Michigan in the first round. NC State has competed at Regionals each year that the event has been held since 2018.
With a win Thursday, NC State will advance to round two of the Athens Regional to face T-No. 1 Florida, No. 16 Illinois and No. 25 Central Michigan Friday, April 2 at 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Wolfpack took second place at the 2021 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship, posting a 196.050. The score was the team's highest away-meet mark of the season.
Sophomore Emily Shepard earned a pair of podium finishes at the meet, taking second on vault with a 9.850 and tying for second in the all-around with a 39.200. The team crossed the 49.000 threshold on beam and floor.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
Western Michigan tied for sixth place at the 2021 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships with a 194.600. The team's highest score of the season came in the form of a 196.050 that was earned in a dual meet with Kent State, and the Broncos crossed the 196.000 mark again at their next meet with a 196.025.
Sophomore Payton Murphy was named the 2021 MAC Gymnast of the Year while freshman Sarah Moravansky captured the Freshman of the Year honors. Murphy additionally earned First Team All-MAC laurels, the Broncos' first since 2015.
