CORAL GABLES, Fla. – In a tightly-contested match with the 29th-ranked Miami Hurricanes, No. 11 NC State women's tennis emerged victorious and came away with the 4-3 win at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
With the victory, the Wolfpack improves to 13-3 on the season and 7-2 in ACC play. The Pack has won its last six matches and has beaten five nationally-ranked opponents in dual match play.
The Pack's outing started with a clutch finish to the doubles point, which freshmen Amelia Rajecki and Abigail Rencheli clinched with a 6-4 victory over Miaim's Daevenia Achong and Florencia Urrutia. The decision came down to the third court after Anna Rogers and Alana Smith won 6-2 on court one and the Canes took a 6-0 win on court two. Rajecki and Rencheli broke on deciding point to close out their doubles win.
Singles action also proved to be a battle with the teams splitting first sets evenly across the six courts. Jaeda Daniel added to the Pack's tally with a 6-4, 6-2 victory before Miami got on the board in a top-10 matchup on court one where No. 10 Estela Perez-Somaribba got the best of fifth-ranked Rogers.
Nearly simultaneously, the Canes took a decision on court six while Adriana Reami closed out a three-setter to put the score back at 3-2 in favor of the Pack. At that point, both Rencheli and Smith were up two games in their respective third sets. It was Rencheli who managed to open up her third set even more, as she took the 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-2 victory over Tahan on court five to clinch.
NC State stays close to home next weekend for a pair of matches at Duke (April 1) and at North Carolina (April 3).
