RALEIGH – The No. 12 NC State women's tennis team (13-3, 7-2 ACC) does not have to travel far for its final road contests of the regular season. The Wolfpack prepares for top-15 matches against Triangle foes as it visits No. 13 Duke on Thursday at 4 p.m. and No. 1 North Carolina on Saturday at 3 p.m.
ATTENDANCE INFO:
Duke (April 1) - Due to the impact of COVID-19, Duke University will begin its spring sport program seasons without spectators at home events. Contests played on Duke's campus will include essential game management personnel and broadcast media. Traditional parking lots used by fans on game day will be closed.
North Carolina (April 3) - If the match ends up being played outside, spots are available for the general public to attend. Masks and social distancing is required.
PACK IN THE RANKINGS:
The Wolfpack checked in at No. 12 in the Wednesday release of the Oracle ITA Division I Team Rankings. NC State has been featured in the national top 15 every week since Feb. 26, 2019.
The Pack has two top-10 doubles pairs - Jaeda Daniel/Adriana Reami (No. 5) and Anna Rogers/Alana Smith (No. 9) - and three ranked singles players - Rogers (No. 5), Smith (No. 29) and Reami (No. 112).
Rogers' ranking is the best singles standing of her career. It bettered the previous program-best mark of No. 8 that she also owned. Daniel and Reami also earned their career-high doubles ranking.
LAST TIME OUT:
NC State earned its first-ever road win against Miami in what was a tightly-contested matchup with the No. 29 Hurricanes on Sunday. The Wolfpack came away with the 4-3 win. The Pack started the outing with a clutch finish to the doubles point, with freshmen Amelia Rajecki and Abigail Rencheli breaking on deciding point for the 6-4 win and the clinch.
Daniel added a straight-sets victory in singles action, and the Pack gutted out a pair of additional three-setters with wins from Reami and Rencheli to secure the team win.
WIN STREAKING
NC State has won its last six matches, with that streak starting with a 5-2 win over Louisville on March 12. The Pack has not dropped a match since narrowly falling to then-No. 13 Georgia Tech on March 7.
The string of victories pushed the Wolfpack into fourth place in the ACC, and it is the third-longest winning streak in the league behind UNC (19 matches) and Virginia (eight matches).
CHASING 150
Rogers, who is already the program's winningest doubles player by a long shot, is one doubles win away from 150 in her NC State career. The fifth-year senior has posted a 149-35 (.810) record coming into the weekend. Rogers and doubles partner Smith are 18-6 as a duo this season, with seven of their victories coming against fellow nationally-ranked foes.
SCOUTING DUKE:
Five Duke singles players are ranked, and the Blue Devils join NC State as the only schools in the nation with two top-10 doubles pairs. Margaryta Bilokin and Meible Chi are ranked sixth, and Chloe Beck and Karolina Berankova are ranked 10th.
SCOUTING UNC:
The Tar Heels lead the ACC with an unblemished 9-0 conference record and a 19-0 overall record entering the weekend. The squad has spent the entirety of the 2021 dual match season ranked No. 1 nationally, and UNC won its second-straight ITA National Team Indoor title in February.
Seven members of UNC's team are ranked in singles, highlighted by Sara Daavettila (No. 3), Cameron Morra (No. 19) and Makenna Jones (No. 21) all in the top 25. Daavettila and Morra make up the nation's fourth-ranked doubles pair.
UP NEXT:
The Wolfpack will play its final pair of regular-season matches at home as it welcomes Virginia Tech (Friday, April 9) and Virginia (Sunday, April 11) to Raleigh. NC State will honor its seniors in a pre-ceremony celebration prior to Friday's match against the Hokies.
