The Orono, Maine, native kicked off her NC State career at a meet hosted by Virginia Tech in which she ran a time that would've won her the individual title at the 2019 ACC Championships held on the same course.
Steelman earned high finishes at both 2020 ACCs and NCAAs. She tabbed third place at the conference meet and was the top finisher for NC State at the NCAA Championships in fifth place. Her finish at the national meet was good for All-America status.
In addition to her ACC laurels, Steelman was honored as the 2021 USTFCCCA Southeast Region Athlete of the Year.
