
#16 Men’s Tennis Falls to #14 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The No. 16. NC State men's tennis team (9-5, 6-1 ACC) dropped its matchup with 14th-ranked South Carolina (10-5, 5-3 SEC) on Friday, falling 4-0.
DOUBLES
South Carolina jumped out to an early lead in the match as it took the doubles point. Jake Beasley and Toby Samuel got in the win column first, defeating Collin Shick and Robin Catry 6-1.
No. 59 Phillip Jordan and Raphael Lambling clinched the doubles point, defeating Robert Turzak and Rafa Izquierdo Luque 6-4.
SINGLES
Despite some strong starts in singles, the Gamecocks ultimately took the first three matches to seal the win.
No. 32 Rodrigues took the first singles point of the day as he defeated Izquierdo Luque 6-3, 6-1 and was followed moments later in victory by Samuel, who got the 6-0, 7-6(4) win over Barkai.
No. 118 Thomson sealed the victory for South Carolina with a 7-6(1), 6-3 win over 95th-ranked Babelis.
UP NEXT
NC State travels to Georgia Tech Friday, Mar. 26 and Clemson Sunday, Mar. 28 as it continues ACC action.
