RALEIGH - The 15th-ranked Wolfpack men's tennis team concluded a five-match homes stretch on Tuesday, defeating Presbyterian 6-1.
DOUBLES
The Wolfpack swept the doubles matches, and a few members of the team saw doubles action for the first time in 2021 as Joseph Schrader and Tristan Smith paired up for a match.
NC State went up early on courts one and two, taking a 3-1 lead on each court over the Presbyterian squads. Collin Shick and Robin Catry made quick work of their match, defeating Two Cariov and Alberto Conde 6-1.
Ninth-ranked Tadas Babelis and Yannai Barkai clinched the doubles point for NC State with a 6-2 win over Max Benson and Daniel Stenger.
On court three, Schrader and Smith posted a 6-4 win over Daniel Martens and Nicholas McKinney to conclude doubles play.
SINGLES
The Wolfpack won five of its first sets, and each NC State victory came in straight-set fashion.
Rafa Izquierdo Luque continued his strong singles performance in the match, defeating Stenger 6-3, 6-1. He was followed moments later by Robin Catry's 6-3, 6-3 victory over Cariov.
Barkai clinched the win for NC State with his 6-3, 6-2 takedown of McKinney on court three.
Play continued on court one where the Blue Hose claimed their first singles win of the day. Benson defeated No. 95 Bablis 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(3) for Presbyterian's only win of the day.
Smith not only saw doubles action for the first time in 2021 but competed for the Wolfpack in singles as well, getting a quick 6-1, 6-0 win over Martens.
Rocens ended singles play for the squad with a win, defeating Conde 6-1, 6-4.
STRAIGHT FROM THE PACK: ASSISTANT COACH CRIS JAMES
"Good day today for the Pack," said assistant coach Cris James. "The guys came out focused and took care of business.
"It was great to be able to get Tristan Smith in the lineup. That was his first dual match action in four years as a senior, so it was great to get him out there. He got two wins today, one in singles and one in doubles, and I'm really happy for him to come out and have a good performance. Now we're on to getting ready for South Carolina Friday."
UP NEXT
The Wolfpack goes on the road, traveling to No. 14 South Carolina for a 1 p.m. matchup Friday, Mar. 19.
