ATLANTA – NC State women's basketball center Elissa Cunane was named to the 2021 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's Midseason Team, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Tuesday.
Cunane was also recently named to the organization's watch list for Women's Defensive Player of the Year, the only ACC player featured on that midseason list. She is also part of the John R. Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 and is one of 10 finalists for the 2021 Lisa Leslie Award.
The Wolfpack junior continues to prove herself as one of the nation's top players. She is the centerpiece to the Pack's four-out, one-in system that has put together a 12-2 record in 2020-21 with two victories over the nation's top-ranked opponents (No. 1 South Carolina on Dec. 3 and No. 1 Louisville on Feb. 1).
Cunane averages a team-leading 16.0 points and 59.6 percent (68-of-114) shooting, while also compiling averages of 7.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Her efficiency has ramped up even further in conference play where she averages 17.6 points, 64.7 percent (44-of-68) from the floor and 8.0 rebounds. The Wolfpack center has also proven herself as a threat from long range, with a 50 percent clip (7-of-14) from distance.
The Summerfield, N.C., native ranks in the top five in the ACC in scoring and field-goal percentage and top 11 in the league in rebounding and blocked shots. Her 59.6 percent clip from the floor is also 12th nationally.
Cunane put together a streak of three-straight double-double performances from Dec. 9 (Elon) to Dec. 17 (Wake Forest), and she has scored 20+ points in three outings and double figures in all but one game. The center has a cumulative +/- of 209 in 276 minutes, with that mark breaking down to +0.70 per minute played this season.
She has shot 50+ percent from the floor in a total of eight outings, including two perfect shooting nights. Earlier in conference action, she posted a season-high 24 points against Boston College (Jan. 3), with her 9-of-9 mark from the field ranking as the best single-game shooting performance by a Wolfpack player in Reynolds Coliseum.
The Atlanta Tipoff Club will announce its late season list for the award on Feb. 17, its list of 10 semifinalists on March 2, its four finalists on March 12 and its National Player of the Year on April 3.
