Softball Wins Third-Straight Shutout

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team completed its 4-0 weekend with its third-straight shutout, Sunday afternoon, against Gardner-Webb. The Wolfpack won 8-0 in six innings on a walk-off RBI double by Logan Morris.
Abby Trahan started in the circle for the Wolfpack, making it the fifth pitcher the Wolfpack used over the weekend. Trahan (4-1) held Gardner-Webb to two hits in 5.0 innings pitched with six strikeouts. Sydney Nester pitched an inning of relief, where she struck out three and allowed one hit. As a pitching staff, NC State allowed just one run this weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED
NC State started out strong with a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a two-RBI single by Carson Shaner that fell in shallow left field.
After leaving the bases loaded in the third inning, NC State's offense powered back with back-to-back RBI-singles from Sam Russ and Tatyana Forbes, extending the lead to 4-0.
NC State continued its hot hitting with three runs on two hits in the bottom of the fifth. Following two leadoff walks, Brigette Nordberg pinch hit for a single to center field, loading the bases. Two sacrifice flies later and an RBI-single from Kaylee Lambrecht put the Wolfpack ahead, 7-0.
With Nester entering the game in the top of the sixth, Gardner-Webb threatened a scoring effort. The Runnin' Bulldogs loaded the bases on a single, walk and hit by pitch. Nester would strikeout back-to-back batters to escape the jam.
Angie Rizzi led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, setting up the walk-off opportunity for Morris to record her fourth extra-base hit of the season.

NC State returns to ACC action next weekend, with a four-game conference series against Georgia Tech. All four games will be broadcast on ACCNX.
