RALEIGH - NC State women's soccer's Jenna Butler and Lulu Guttenberger will use their extra year of eligibility, granted by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and return for the 2022 campaign.
Â
Butler, a 2021 United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-Atlantic Region selection, has started all 66 games in her career as a central defender and owns five goals and six assists. Guttenberger, a three-time All-ACC selection and team captain, has started all 75 games she's played in her career and has seven goals and 12 assists from her central defender position.
Â
The duo has played a vital role in the Wolfpack's success in recent years, as the program has made a pair of Sweet Sixteen appearances (2018, '19) and has advanced to the NCAA Second Round twice (2017, '21) during their time in Raleigh. Additionally, NC State has reached the ACC Tournament semifinals twice (2017, '19), finished nationally ranked from 2017-19, and compiled three 10+ win seasons.
Â
"Obviously, we're thrilled to have Lulu and Jenna back for their final season," said head coach Tim Santoro. "They're two of our best players and, to me, they're as good as any defensive tandem in the ACC and the country."
