Late Run Pushes Canes Past Pack

Jericole Hellems scored 24 points and went over 1,000 for his career in the loss
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami went on a 13-2 run to break open a tied game late in the second half to push past NC State, 91-83, Wednesday night.
Jericole Hellems led NC State with 24 points in the loss. The senior from Saint Louis, Mo., completed a three-point play in the second half to give him 1,000 points for his career. He is the 55th player in NC State history to reach 1,000 career points.
Dereon Seabron posted his eighth double-double of the season with 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
Terquavion Smith finished with 14 points and Thomas Allen had his finest performance of the season with a season-high 13 points off the bench.
The Pack led by one at the half and scored the first five points of the second half to extend its lead. NC State led by as many as eight points in the final 20 minutes, taking a 64-56 lead on a Thomas Allen jumper with 11:21 to play.
Miami responded with an 8-1 run to cut its deficit to one, but a Hellems three-point play pushed the Pack back in front, 68-64, with 8:27 remaining.
The Pack would build the lead back to 73-68 with 7:06 left, but Miami would score 18 of the next 20 points to break open the game.
Jordan Miller scored a season-high 25 points to lead Miami, Kameron McGusty added 20 and Isaiah Wong finished with 19 points, 15 in the second half.
NC State held a 41-40 lead at the break. Miami led by as many as eight points in the first half, taking a 25-17 lead 10 minutes into the game, but the Pack tightened up on the defensive end in the half 10 minutes, holding the Canes to just two field goals in the final six minutes of the half as NC State outscored Miami 24-15 in the final 10 minutes of the opening period.
NC State is back in action on New Year's Day when it hosts Florida State at 4 p.m. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.
