Career Performances Push NC State Past Notre Dame

RALEIGH – NC State never gave up hope and earned a hard-fought 3-2 (25-27, 25-21, 23-25, 25-17, 15-13) win over Notre Dame in Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball action inside of Reynolds Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
The Pack (14-11, 8-6 ACC) had four players record a double-double in the match, which ties for the most double-doubles in a single game this season. This match was the first five-set ACC match this season for the Wolfpack.
Powering NC State in the win was junior Taylor Rowland who tallied her sixth double-double of the season with a game- and career-high 25 kills on a blistering .339 hitting percentage with 16 digs, tying her career high. Senior Jade Parchment also racked up a double-double with 22 kills and 14 digs to go along with three assists.
Graduate student Melissa Evans put up 15 kills and 15 digs with three service aces and six blocks. Junior Kristen McDaniel recorded a career-high 60 assists to go along with 11 digs and a career-high five kills on .444 hitting. Graduate student Kaylee Frazier secured a match-high 19 digs as she became the fifth player in the rally scoring era to eclipse 1,000 career digs.
Set One (NC State 27, Notre Dame 25)
The Irish (10-13, 7-6 ACC) controlled the rhythm in the first set as Notre Dame held a three-point lead throughout the majority of the set. The Pack was able to find some momentum late in the set as the team battled off two set points to tie the score at 24-all. Notre Dame ended the set with a kill and a NC State error to take a 1-0 lead.
Set Two (NC State 25, Notre Dame 21)
NC State's offense came alive in the second set as the team never trailed en route to tying the match at 1-1. The Pack hit a thunderous .368 hitting percentage with 16 kills, only making two errors. Evans had a great set as she tallied six kills on an errorless 11 swings for a .545 hitting clip with two blocks and three digs. McDaniel also stepped up as she tallied 15 assists and two service aces.
Set Three (NC State 23, Notre Dame 25)
The third set was a hard-fought battle from start to finish as there were six ties and five lead changes. What seemed to be going all NC State's way changed near the end of the set as Notre Dame closed the frame with a 9-3 run to earn the tight 25-23 set win and take a 2-1 lead.
Set Four (NC State 25, Notre Dame 17)
The Pack bottled its frustration from the end of the third set and used it as force in the fourth set as the team never trailed and held Notre Dame to a .132 hitting percentage to force a fifth set. NC State racked up 15 kills with only four errors while locking up on defense with 15 digs and four team blocks.
Set Five (NC State 15, Notre Dame 13)
The Wolfpack began the final set on fire as it jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead. The Irish did not give up as Notre Dame fought back to trail by one at 7-6. The Pack kept its composure and held on to the tight lead before going on a slight run to take a 14-10 lead. Notre Dame recorded a kill and back-to-back service aces to bring the score to 14-13 but Parchment ended the match with a strong kill off the block for the win.
