
National Champions! Wolfpack Women Bring NCAA Title Back to Raleigh

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The NC State women's cross country team won its first NCAA Championship in program history on Saturday, totaling 84 points to take home the team crown.
While the title is the first NCAA Championship in program history, it is the third national title won by the storied NC State program. The Wolfpack women's squads won the AIAW Championships in 1979 and 1980. The title is additionally the first by an ACC women's team since Virginia won back-to-back titles in 1981 and 1982.
This is the second national championship team win in Tallahassee for NC State. The 1979 squad's AIAW title was won in the city as well.
NC State took charge early on in the race, leading at the initial 1170m split, and never looked back. All five of the Pack's top finishers that counted towards the team score earned All-American honors to set a program record for number of All-American honorees in a single season. Chmiel, Tuohy and Steelman each garnered the accolade for the second-straight season.
The Wolfpack was led by Kelsey Chmiel's sixth-place individual finish with a time of 19:34.6 as the highest ACC finisher .
Sophomore Katelyn Tuohy also posted a top-20 finish as her time of 19:43.1 placed her 15th.
Allie Hays recorded the first All-America performance of her career, placing 22nd with a time of 19:48.2 while Hannah Steelman placed 24th in 19:49.6. Sam Bush rounded out the Pack's five that counted towards the team total with her 32nd-place finish (19:52.9).
Heather Holt suited up for NC State as well, placing in 95th with a time of 20:28.1. Dominique Clairmonte competed in her fifth NCAA Championships, tabbing 153rd (20:49.2).
On the men's side, individual qualifier JP Flavin finished in 50th place in his final collegiate race. He crossed the finish line in 29:38.7.
