RALEIGH, N.C. – After playing four of the last five on the road, #20 NC State ends the 2021 regular season with a pair of home ACC contests. Up first, the Wolfpack plays host to Syracuse on Saturday.
Â
The game will kick off at 4 p.m., and will be televised on the ACC Network.
Â
NC State comes into the contest having won eight straight games at Carter-Finley Stadium, and all five this season. At home, the Pack is outscoring its foes 179-68 (35.8-13.6).
Â
"I think the guys are just excited to be in town for two straight weeks," said Doeren. "One of our goals here is to be undefeated at home and that's a realistic goal. Two games here at the Carter to finish it up and it's (against) two good opponents."
Â
The game will also mark NC State's annual Military Appreciation Day. As always, many elements of the day will feature and honor current and former members of the military.
Â
"This one's Military Appreciation Week and it's an awesome setting in our stadium," said Doeren. "Our fans have always done a great job of coming out and supporting the military during this. The flyover, the flag on the field and it's a special night.
Â
"Big thank you to our military personnel, active and inactive, for what they do and what they've done for our nation. It's a great opportunity just to celebrate them and a game night. So, look forward to that."
Â
The Orange come in with one of the top rushing offenses in the nation. Syracuse ranks fifth in the NCAA with 236.7 yards on the ground per game, and 26 rushing scores is 12th-best. Fr. RB Sean Tucker is third in the NCAA with 1,362 rushing yards this season, averaging 136.2 a game.
Â
"They're number one in the conference rushing offense and have the top running back statistically in the league," said Doeren. "Their quarterback rushes the ball well and is a North Carolina native.
Â
"So we've got a great opportunity, great challenge with their rushing attack."
Â
The Pack defense is highly ranked in stopping the run. NC State ranks 11th nationally in rushing defense and fourth nationally with only given up four rushing TDs on the season.
Â
NC State and Syracuse will be meeting for the 15th time all-time, and the ninth time since the Orange joined the ACC. The Pack is 12-2 in the previous matchups, having won the last two and six of the last seven.
